Recently I had the pleasure of visiting beautiful Mackinac Island in Northern Michigan.  When we decided to stay the night on the island, we chose to stay at the historic Island House Hotel. The Island House is the oldest hotel on Mackinac Island and is absolutely beautiful.  From the tastefully decorated rooms to the sophisticated lobby and 1852 Grill Room and Ice House BBQ, this hotel is first class all the way.

Getting to the hotel was simple as Island House is located just off of Main Street, yet is a very short walk from the dock where the ferry lands.  You are close to everything yet just away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street.  When we arrived at the hotel we were so impressed at how beautiful the hotel is. There is a huge front porch with plenty of seating.  You can sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful waterfront view.    The lobby is welcoming and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Island House is the oldest hotel on Mackinac Island and 2019 marks the 50 year anniversary of when Victor Callewaert  saved the historic Victorian property from being demolished.  The Island House just completed a multi-year $4 million renovation.  The hotel looks amazing, with guest rooms getting updated with a coastal decor, high speed wifi, a second whirlpool and so much more.

We checked into our room and it was a beautiful.  We had the premium view room and it did not disappoint. We had a king bed that was so comfortable and the  pull out sofa is great to have if you have more guests.  There is a nice table to sit at and enjoy the stunning view of the harbor.  The room has plenty of outlets and a USB port.  There is a tv, hair dryer, refrigerator and a coffee maker.  The air-conditioning  was great and handy for the humid Michigan summer. The bathroom was roomy and had a nice walk in shower.  This was honestly a great room!

We were so impressed with the amenities that the Island House offers.  The restaurants are amazing and there is a great heated  indoor pool and  inside and outside whirlpools.  In the evenings, there are fire chimneas where you can sit and enjoy the fire with a nice beverage or even grab a s’mores kit from the gift shop and roast marshmallows!  You can rent bikes right out in front of the hotel, which I highly recommend!  This is an amazing way to see the island!

Another cool thing about the the Island House is that it is a part of the 906 Rewards Club.  This is a great program that gives you points when you visit the participating vendors. To learn more about this and see the participating businesses on the island, please see the blog post on the 906 Rewards Club.  We did have some amazing meals at participating restaurants.  We also had an amazing breakfast buffet at the Island House’s restaurant, 1852 Grill Room.  The buffet had a great assortment of hot food and a real European feel to the continental side with croissant, pasty, cheeses and even smoked salmon.

Overall, I would say that our stay at the Island House Hotel was one of our favorites.  If you ever get the opportunity to visit Mackinac Island, I highly recommend the Island House Hotel and signing up for the 906 Rewards Club!
