The Grand Rapids area is a great place to visit and staying in downtown GR is a must! With so much to see and so much to do, why wouldn’t you want to be right in the middle of it all! Downtown Grand Rapids has world class museums, restaurants and coffee shops and more local craft breweries than anywhere! There are also several smaller concert venues, the convention center and our large sports arena. Here is a list of the best hotels that Downtown Grand Rapids has to offer.
The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel is an iconic luxury hotel situated right in the middle of downtown and on the Grand River. There is a fabulous pool and spa and all the amenities you would expect at a luxurious hotel. The Amway has restaurants that you don’t want to miss – including The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck and the newly opened rooftop restaurant, MDRD. There are also several amazing bars including IDC that require a special code for entry!

The JW Marriott is in the perfect location for exploring downtown and has the comfort and sophistication that you would expect from the JW franchise. The rooms are luxurious and the amenities are world class. There is a beautiful indoor pool and hot tub and a luxurious spa. The restaurants are fantastic with one having year round deck seating.

The Canopy by Hilton is an amazing hotel in the Studio Park area. It has an awesome rooftop bar and is a few minutes walk to the arenas and some fantastic restaurants and the downtown museums. There are also many local craft breweries within a short walk. With mid-century modern design and furnishings by Amish artisans, this is a gorgeous hotel and is definitely a must.

The Residence Inn is the newest hotel downtown and just opened in February of 2021. Residence Inn is in a great location, right across from the Van Andel Arena and a short walk to all of the cool things downtown. The hotel is pet friendly and the rooms are spacious with nice sitting areas with a comfy couch. They even offer complimentary grocery delivery and a free hot breakfast.

The AC Hotel by Marriott is an elegant hotel in an 1800’s building with modern European-inspired decor. There is a great lounge and even an in-house library. The AC is around the corner from the Van Andel arena and right in the middle of downtown, close to many bars and restaurants.

The Morton is very hip and cool with studios & apartment style rooms in a polished dog-friendly hotel. The Morton prides itself on being dog friendly and even has doggy packages. It is located within a few minutes walk of the downtown venues and great restaurants. The City Flats Hotel is a trendy boutique hotel with exposed brick in some rooms and hip decor. Each room is different and there are king, queen or two full bed rooms available. It is within walking distance of all the fun stuff to do downtown. There is a lounge that serves local brews and share plates.

The Courtyard by Marriott is another great place to stay. The rooms and lobby are nice and updated and there is an indoor pool and fitness center plus an outdoor sports deck with a jogging track, tennis courts and a basketball court.
The Courtyard is located right around the corner and has indoor walkway access to the Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place Convention Center.

Homewood Suites by Hilton is a great hotel that offers suites, an indoor pool and a rooftop bar. With its central downtown location, the Homewood is a 3-minute walk to the Grand Rapids Art Museum and close to everything. Standard suites have kitchens and pull=out sofas while upgraded suites offer exposed brick and city views.

Hyatt Place is a wonderful hotel that is situated near everything downtown. It is only a few minutes walk to Rosa Park Circle and a couple of blocks to the arenas. There is an indoor pool and the rooms offer a nice sitting area. There is an onsite restaurant and offers free breakfast, complimentary wifi and is pet-friendly.

The Embassy Suites is a great hotel to visit just on the Northside of downtown. It has close proximity to the Medical Mile and only half a mile into central downtown and DeVos Place and a mile to Van Andel Arena. There is a nice park across the street along the Grand River and plenty of restaurants within a five minute walk. The Embassy Suites offers complimentary breakfast, wifi and even has room service. One of my favorite things at this hotel is the Michigan shaped indoor pool.

The Holiday inn is a nice place to stay just on the West side of the Grand River. It is across the street from the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum and next to the GR Museum. It is also right next to the downtown campus of GVSU. This modern hotel has an indoor pool, fitness center & on-site restaurant, plus free WiFi & parking.
