When you think of luxury,  castles always come to mind.  How lucky are we to have stayed in just that.  A fairytale castle overlooking Old Quebec and the St Lawrence River.  The bonus is that the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is DOG FRIENDLY!

The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is more than a luxury hotel. It is a history buffs dream come true.  It is the most iconic landmark in Quebec and it is easy to see why it is one of the most photographed hotels in the world. Built in 1833, the hotel was originally built to look like a castle to promote luxury train travel of the Canadian Pacific Railway.  The Chateau Fontenac  is definitely the place to be!

When you pull up to the entrance through the castle like passage, you are greeted by friendly valets and bellmen.  Everything about this hotel is first class, including the staff.  Everyone is extremely professional and friendly.

The lobby is impressive with original hardwood everywhere.  The beautiful gold accents and chandeliers just make you feel that you are surrounded by luxury.  When you walk through the lobby there are several boutiques and you can go downstairs to get a coffee at Starbucks.  There are beautiful statues and many interesting historical pieces to admire.  But, honestly, the best part of the lobby is Daphnie.  Daphnie is the Le Chateau Frontenac’s ambassador canine.  She was trained by the Mira Foundation to become a guide dog but she switched careers to become an ambassador.  She happily greets guests and makes you feel welcome!

After checking in you enter the impressive elevators that take you to your floor.  The hotel has the original mail delivery system still in place just outside of the elevator.  All of these original touches just adds to the experience of staying at such a beautiful old hotel.  Even with the renovations in 2014, the hotel kept its original charm, just adding modern touches!

The rooms are incredible. We had a king bed that is one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in.  The luxury bedding was so soft and just made you want to stay under the covers.  The view of Old Quebec was stunning and everything about the room was exactly what you would expect from such a World renowned hotel.  Brimley, our dog, absolutely loved it!  He had his own mat and dog bowls as well as a special dog treat!

The hotel has some amazing restaurants.  Champlain Restaurant  and Chef Stephane Modat creates delicious new Quebec cuisine in an elegant atmosphere overlooking the St Lawrence River.  The 1608 Bar is a great place to have a creative cocktail.  Bistro Le Sam serves lunch, dishes to share, happy hours and trendy mixology.  We truly enjoyed the amazing breakfast buffet at Place Dufferin.  This breakfast buffet is definitely a must.  From the beautiful setup to the white table cloths, this is an elegant way to start your day.  There is an omelette station, a large variety of hot foods, an extensive pastry selection, meats and cheeses, yogurts and fresh fruit.  Everything about this buffet is first class.

The location of the hotel could not be more perfect.  Located inside North America’s only walled city, the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Quebec.  The hotel is surrounded by parks and boutiques and you can easily access the Quartier Petit-Champlain by the funicular that is steps from the hotel.  There are beautiful boutiques, plenty of restaurants and of course the Umbrella Alley.

There are so many sights to see and things to do, I can not wait to return to Quebec!
